
Youths of Bokkos local government area of Plateau state on Thursday defied the curfew imposed by the state government following the assassination of their traditional ruler by unknown persons.
The Dream Daily observed that the youths took to the streets in the morning brandishing dangerous weapons and burning homes.
The youths also prevented security operatives from entering the Bokkos Council. Journalist and security operatives ran for their dear lives as the armed youths charged towards them.
Our correspondent who was at the scene observed that tension is still high in the locality as the youths have vowed that they would avenge the killing of their traditional ruler.
The state government had earlier declare a curfew in the locality and summoned an emergency meeting of security agencies so as to come up with strategy to prevent reprisals from aggrieved groups.
The Director of Press Affairs, Emmauel Nanle, had said that the state Governor, Simon Lalong , had condole with the people and government of Bokkos local government.
Lalong also appealed for calm and urged the community to allow the security agencies to investigate the attack so as to arrest those behind it immediately.
“Governor Lalong also appeal to youths and every other aggrieved citizens of the local government not to take laws into their hands as a result of the attack or engage in any other act that will further endanger peace of the locality and the entire state.
It would be recalled that the paramount ruler of Bokkos local government, His Highness Lazarus Agai, the Saf Ron Kulere,was killed by unknown gunmen recently.
The first class ruler of the locality was killed alongside his driver and his personal aide.
The community leader and his aides were allegedly ambushed by heavily armed men while on their way from Shen village.
