A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Initiative for Muslim Women of Nigeria (IMWON) has appealed to Niger Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Namaska and other relevant bodies to assist the communities in Rijau local government with western education and other social amenities.
The NGO team, which was in Niger state sequel to the discovery of the community totally cut off from governments and had recently accepted Islam as their religion, assisted about 600 of the people with hijabs, clothes, detergents and amplifier and speaker for mosque.
The National Director of the organization, Malama Rabi ‘ah Sufiyan Ahmad while speaking with journalists in Minna after five days in the community in Rijau local government of Niger state, lamented the situation of the people who are still leaving half naked in the 21st century and believed in traditional religion.
The communities include Kiriya, Alanga, Mauru, Muthi and Birinin Amina. Each village has over 100 people who were converted to Islam.
Malama Ahmad hinted that the association, which was established in 2009, had so far impacted positively on the lives of over 50,000 people in its various activities in 16 states of the federation as well as in Togo and Niger Republic, especially in assisting the Internal Displaced People (IDPs).
She stressed that their activities was more pronounced in the 19 northern states of the federation with its headquarter in Kaduna.
According to her, the organization has impacted many lives through skills acquisition, with about 20,000 women, over 20,000 orphans, 10,000 youths and about 600 persons in Niger state receiving various training to fend for themselves.
She added that the NGO recently reviewed and adopted a new strategic plan, redefining its vision, mission, value statements, goal and strategic objectives.
She lamented inadequate funds and logistics like vehicles to carry out its activities effectively and efficiently and called for the well-to-do in society, governments and other NGOs to complement the group’s efforts to better the lots of the people.
