I Have No Hand In Council Boss’ Suspension – Delta Deputy Speaker
The host communities of Nigeria producing oil and gas, Delta state chapter has raised the alarm over what they described as “ambiguities” in DESOPADEC budget of 2016.
While protesting at the Assembly complex, the group said that the 2015 budget passed by the state house has not been implemented, stressing that all budget proposal for 2015 was cleverly omitted to short-change the host communities, especially the capital budget.
The group alleged that non-accountability and disappearance of over N16 billion from the DESOPADEC 2015 budget was a corruption of the highest order.
Reacting to the alleged N16 billion disappearance, the deputy speaker said it was unfair for the host communities to accused the state house of Assembly now because the DESOPADEC bill has not been pass.
He urged the host communities to be patient with the House.
The Dream Daily learnt that the DESOPADEC bill has pass first and second reading. However, it was refered to the committee on DESOPADEC where it suffered a set back, as it was alleged that the Speaker of the House, Hon. Monday Igbuya, allegedly demanded a huge amount of money from the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Mr William Mankinde, before passing the bill.
Meanwhile, about a month after the Ndokwa East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Nkechi Chukwura, was suspended by the Delta State House of Assembly, the Deputy Speaker of the House and member representing Ndokwa East Hon. Friday Osanebi, has exonerated himself from the crisis rocking the council.
Osanebi, who made this know while speaking to newsmen in his office on Thursday at the House of Assembly complex Asaba, said it was the councillors that moved against the chairman.
“I am legislating for the good governance of the state, I don’t have business in the local government, what is happening in Ndokwa East council is politics and I don’t have a hand in the her suspension.
She was not impeached but suspended till the House conclude their investigation. 12 councillors moved against her over financial misappropriation and misconduct which we the House look into as our oversight function,” he explained.
