The 1,777 2016 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to Kaduna state were sworn to oath of National service at the NYSC orientation camp, Sabon Gaya, Kaduna, at the weekend
The oath was administered by the representative of the chief judge of Kaduna State, Justice Mairo Mohammed.
Declaring the orientation course open, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung, said the present administration was determined to make huge investments in Nigerian youths.
Dalung said: “On assumption of duty, the state of the nation’s economy was not a cheery news, as he (President Buhari) was confronted with disturbing problems inherited by his administration of increasing unemployment amongst the young people.
“The unemployment situation has taken a great toll on the Nigerian youths at their prime productive ages, which was the reason why the administration is committed to recovering illicit wealth in order to channel them into productive economic ventures to absorb thousands into employment.”
President Buhari then advised corps members to embrace the prevailing remedial strategies put in place by public and private institutions which includes many interventionist programmes such as NYSC ventures, War against Poverty (WAP), Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes, and the Youth Innovative Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YIEDP) which are dedicated for post-service self-employment for out-going corps members.
Also the chairman, state NYSC governing Board and Honourable Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Culture Honourable Daniel Dan-Auta, assured the corps members of their security and welfare in any part of Kaduna state.
Dan-Auta reminded then that making success of their service year begins with their good conduct in the orientation camp. He finally wished the corps members a successful orientation course.
Earlier in an address, Coordinator of NYSC in Kaduna, Mohammed Momoh, expressed his gratitude to Mr President for believing in the scheme and his determination to reposition the NYSC for improved service delivery to the Nation.
The state coordinator commended the Governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir el-Rufai for his remarkable and unwavering support to NYSC in the state.
