The All Progressive Congress (APC) has admonished the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “not to be the enemy within as it laboriously tries to, in the guise of opposition politics,  deceive Nigerians” over a recent National Bureau of Statistics (NBC) report on Nigeria’s economy growth.

The ruling APC issued the admonition via a statement by National Secretary, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee,(CECPC), Sen. John James, Akpanudoedehe, at the weekend in Abuja.

Recall that the NBS, in its Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) report, showed that the Nigerian economy grew by 3.4 percent in 2021, the strongest since 2014. The report shows sustained positive growth for the 5th quarter since the recession witnessed in 2020.

But Akpanudoedehe queried “the reasons behind the PDP pessimism and gloom over the NBS report, which an apparently deflated PDP says is fake.”

Akpanudoedehe wrote: “It’s clear that PDP is still stuck on the voodoo economics it used to hide and the shocking mismanagement of the economic under its watch”.

“Our economic growth is not a mere happenstance but as a result of deliberate programmes and policies of President Muhammadu Buhari government to reflect, diversify and grow the economy from its former shoddy state”.

The statement said the APC government had achieved “these feats, as a result of direct government’s non-oil sector, economic diversification drive, agriculture, trade, information and communications technology, and financial and insurance institutions. These accounted for the positive GDP growth reported by the NBS.”

The statement urged all well-meaning Nigerians and other stakeholders in the Nigerian Project “to support this government to consolidate on its economic wins and efforts to entrench good governance practices which ultimately translate to transparency, accountability and enabling environment for sustainable development.”
