The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 156 drug traffickers in various communities raided by the agency in Anambra State between January, 2016 and May, 2016.
Mr. Sule Momodu, NDLEA Commander in the state revealed this in a press conference on Wednesday. He said those arrested include 146 males and 10 females.
Momodu told newsmen that within the period under review, the agency seized drugs weighing 923kg and 3 vehicles, adding that 65 out of the suspects arrested by the agency were charged to court.
The NDLEA boss commended Governor Willie Obiano for being of tremendous help which, according to him, had propelled the agency to accomplish a number of feats; but regretted however, that lack of operational vehicles had continued to limit their achievements.
Speaking on the theme of the 2016 Drug Awareness Day, which is “Listen First”, he lamented what he called continued increase in cases of drug abuse and trafficking in the society, especially among the young ones.
He maintained that the major factor that forces the young ones to go into drug is because most parents do not give attention to their children to understand their worries, desires, aspirations and ambitions, adding,
“If we listen to them, as the theme of this year suggests, and understand their problems and worries as they grow, we will be better able to identify their problems early enough before they go out of hand,” Momodu said.
