NECO Delists Six Schools, Ekiti Leads Other States In Performance

The National Examination Council (NECO) has deregistered six schools for examination malpractice while candidates from Ekiti state have taken the lead in the performance chart with 85 per cent.

Registrar, NECO, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, stated this yesterday while releasing the result for the June/July Senior Secondary Certificate Examination at the Council headquarters in Minna.

He said that over 745,053 candidates representing 70.85% got English and mathematics which he described as 1.11% improvement in performance compared with last year.

He also explained that 947,850 candidates representing 9-0.14% passed the examination irrespective of English and mathematics.

The Registrar said 59,586 candidates were involved in examination malpractices while 276 schools were involved in mass cheating during the examination.

According to him, “26 supervisors who aided malpractices in one way or the other have been blacklisted while six other schools were derecognized for examination malpractice”.

While expressing appreciation to NECO staff for a job well done the Registrar said that he has put in place robust plan that will ensure fairness and equity in all dealings with them.

In the table of analysis of candidates’ performance by states, Ekiti state took first again after leading in last year results with 85 per cent while Edo state came second with 84.61% followed by Bayelsa state with 84.52%. Zamfara state came last on the table with 48.45%.

He advised candidates to access their results on the council website using their examination registration number and scratch card.
