The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday presented relief materials to Kaduna State Government for onward distribution to displaced persons of Godogodo crisis in Jema’a Local Government Area.
Taking delivery of the materials at the Jema’a Local Council Secretariat, Kafanchan, the Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Barnabas Bala Bantex, appreciated the Agency for the assistance describing it as heart-warming.
The deputy governor said the solution to the unending Godogodo crisis, was in the hands of warring parties and stakeholders of the area.
Bantex, who attributed the security challenge to poverty and idleness, said the state government was doing everything possible to create job opportunities to absorb idling Youths and stem the menace.
Presenting the relief materials earlier, Director General, NEMA Sani Sidi, who was represented by the Zonal Director, Kaduna Zone of the Agency, Musa Illella, condoled with the Kaduna State Government and its people over loss of lives and property in the crisis.
Sidi said the Agency had 100 bags each of maize and Guinea Corn, 50 bags of rice, 100 bundles of roofing sheets, 300 bags of cement and clothing materials among others to assist the displaced persons.
He said the gesture was not compensation to lives and property loss but a token to cushion the effects of the crisis.
In a remark, the Interim Chairman , Jema’a Local Government, Dr, Bege Katukah, appreciated the federal and state governments for what he described as prompt intervention and promised to deliver the items to the target persons accordingly.
Meanwhile, youths of Godogodo village resisted an attempt by the deputy governor to address them, blaming security operatives, especially soldiers, for showing lukewarm attitude, when the community came under another attack on Sunday.
The deputy governor had to leave without uttering a word and later visited the Chief of Godogodo, Malam Iliya Ajiya where he condoled with the community over the ugly development.
Responding, the Chief thanked the state and federal governments for the show of concern and appealed for immediate steps to end the crisis.
