The Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), as a platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The application, dated 19 June, 2025, and received by INEC on 20 June, was signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets, the Protem National Chairman of the association.

In the letter addressed to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the NNCG outlined its intent to establish the ADA, with the slogan “Justice for All.” The application included the party’s logo, featuring a corn (maize) symbol, along with its manifesto, constitution and minutes of foundational meetings, all in compliance with Section 40 and 222 of the Nigerian Constitution and Section 75 of the Electoral Act (2022).

The letter emphasised the party’s commitment to global democratic principles and its vision for a unified political platform.

The ADA emerges from a coalition of prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats.

The group initially considered merging with existing parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Social Democratic Party (SDP) but opted for a new platform to avoid internal conflicts and legal disputes. A committee led by Amaechi recommended creating the ADA to ensure all members start “on equal footing.”

The coalition’s move follows weeks of strategic deliberations, with the NNCG aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

The application awaits INEC’s response, with the commission recently emphasising strict adherence to constitutional and electoral guidelines for party registration.

Public affairs analysts say the ADA’s formation signals a significant realignment of opposition forces, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle.
