Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has approved N750 million for infrastructural development in he 25 local government councils across the state.

The governor, who expressed dismay over the state of infrastructures in the local governments, said that each council would get N30 million per month to address the decay in infrastructures and ensure that the people get quality basic amenities.

Speaking during the midterm assessment tour to Katcha local government area, Bello said that the local government councils have suffered neglect for many years which have left a lot of decayed infrastructure acknowledging that his administration have a lot of job to do in addressing this decay.

“There is a lot of job to be done in the local government areas. There has been neglect of these councils over the years that they lack so many basic amenities. They need to use a normal life and it would require a lot of money, billions of naira which we do not have. But we are starting from somewhere, that is why I have approved the N30 million each for each local government area,” he said.

Bello also declared that there is the need for the state government to find alternative source of generating revenue in order to address the challenges facing the state and local government areas.

His words: “With our enormous challenges, we have to work very hard towards improving our Internally Generated Revenue because I doubt if our FAAC allocation would address the challenges of our state. We also need to find alternative sources of fund to address most of the issues because most of them are capital intensive.”

During the assessment tour, the governor promised to upgrade the Primary Healthcare Center in Katcha local government area into a general hospital while the Government Girls Commercial Secondary school would be captured in the government whole school approach to give the dilapidated school a facelift.
