The Niger State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mustapha Jibrin Mohammed, has told Non-Pharmacist Directors to embrace ethical conduct of the profession rather than interest accrued from the business.
He gave the charge on Tuesday in Minna at a one-day orientation workshop for Non- pharmacist director organized by the state ministry of health in collaboration with Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN).
He said that they needed orientation to bridge the gap of communication in line with the code of conduct and ethics of the pharmaceutical business in the workshop with theme: Ethical Reorientation of the Non Pharmacist Directors on the Drug Distribution Networks.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Tiffin, who said that this was in line with part of restoration agenda of the present administration on change mantra in the state to ensure guarantee good health and safeguard the people on the use of pharmaceutical products.
Director, Pharmaceutical Services (DPS) in the ministry, Pharm. Mohammed Ahmed Ndagi, in his speech blamed the Non-Pharmacist Directors for the high incidence of drug abuse and misuse in the state that caused great concern as an important stakeholders.
He told the pharmacy operators and Non-Pharmacist Directors to be aware of the state’s standard of zero tolerance for drug abuse and misuse. He charged them to allow professional pharmacists to offer services, cooperate with inspectors and report suspected dealers and consumers of Illicit drugs as well to be patient care focused among others.
Registrar, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Elijah Nurudeen Mohammed who was represented by Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, said that the body has the mandate to register, regulate, train and strictly control Pharmaceutical products as well educate and inspect in line with standard to avoid counterfeit drug circulation.
