Niger State government has proposed N46.2 billion for the 25 local government councils for 2016 fiscal year.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Kabir Abbas Musa disclosed this while briefing the press at Government House, Minna.
The agreed proposed figure for the grassroots administration will be presented to the Niger State House of Assembly as the 2016 Local Government Appropriation Bill.
Musa said the budget proposal include the statutory allocation of 5 per cent, which amount to N2.3 billion, has been allocated for the Emirate Councils.
The commissioner attributed the delay of the budget to the change in leadership of the local government starting from the caretakers of the past administration to the use of Director Personnel Management as coordinator, adding that the inclusion of the Emirate Councils in the budget also contributed to the delay.
In another development, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mohammed Nda, has emphasized that all projects to be carried out by ministries, departments and agencies in the state must pass through the Planning Commission in order to ensure accountability and transparency in the system.
He also explained that the policy was in place to enable government effectively trace progress of work and to avoid past experience of not been able to link to a particular project to a Ministry.
In yet another development, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hajiya Ramatu Mohammed Yar’Adua, has said that efforts were on by the state government to make the Minna City Centre open to investors within and outside the state.
