The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) has concluded plan to set up a special marshal unit of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ to mobilise journalists for road safety in Niger State.
The Niger State Sector Commander of the corps, Mrs Susan Ajenge made the disclosure when the Executives’ of the Union in the state led by the Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Mohammed paid her a visit yesterday in Minna.
She said the special marshal unit for journalists in the state will enable them play a vital role in becoming core players in the campaign to make Niger road accident free and also mobilize the public for same reason.
She lauded journalists in the state for giving the FRSC adequate coverage, while stating the strategic roles journalists played in the society. She added that the corps in the state has no doubt that establishing a special marshal comprising of journalists would be worthwhile.
Ajenge therefore appealed to journalists not to hesitate in bring to the notice of the sector any act on the roads that was capable of putting the life of the people at risk assuring that they will always see journalists as partners in progress.
The chairman of the Council, based on the assertion of the Sector Commander, thereafter announced a committee to be chaired by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu to liaise with the FRSC to set up the Special Marshal unit.
Comrade Mohammed noted that there has been existing cordial relationship between the union and the FRSC and pledged that with the sector commander as the first female to ever take charge of the command, the relationship could only be better.
