The Wife of the Niger State Governor and Founder, RAiSE Foundation Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, in collaboration with Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) has commenced free cervical cancer screening for 1,000 women in Bida, Niger State.

According to Dr. Bello, who flagged of the 2-day free cervical cancer screening in Bida on Moday, stated that cervical and breast cancer were the major silent killers of women in their reproductive ages, adding that this is the main reason for the free screening which would be carried out in all the zones in the state.

She also stated that the reason for the free screeching was to afford the rural women and those who ordinarily cannot afford the screening cost to have the opportunity to do it.
Her words: “Apart from the screening, we are also carrying out awareness campaigns and health talks. We are also going to be sensitizing women in all our Local Government Areas in the state. We are going to advise women to be more conscious and pay more attention to their health’.

She stated that the screening was for early detection and treatment, adding that those found with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) would also be treated for free.

She urged women to consistently take advantage of programmes like hers and also ensure that they visit primary health care centres for regular treatments and check-ups.

Responding on behalf of the women, Racheal Yisa thanked the wife of the governor, stating that they were grateful that she cared for their health.
