Niger Moves To Immortalize Late Governor Kure

The Niger state government is to immortalize the late former governor of the state Alhaji Abdulkhadir Abdullahi Kure.

Former governor Kure died in a German hospital on the 8th of January this year after a brief illness.

He was the third executive governor of the state and was in office for two terms,1999-2007.

The state House of Assembly debating a matter of urgent importance on Tuesday passed the motion seeking to immortalize the late governor ” for the good works he did for the state and Nigeria when he was alive”.

The motion was moved by Alhaji Adamu Hassan Abugi member representing Lapai constituency in the assembly.

The motion which was unanimously passed by the 27-member House suggested three public institutions to the executive out of which one should be picked for the immortalization project.

The public institutions are the State College of Agriculture Mokwa, the Niger state College of Education Minna and the Zungeru Polytechnic.

Speaker of the House Alhaji Ahmed Marafa Guni who described the late Kure as ” a honest gentleman” directed the Clerk of the Assembly to immediately communicate the decision to the executive for implementation.

Mover of the motion Alhaji Adamu Hassan Abugi said he was moved by the contributions of the late governor to the socio- political and economic development of the state and the fact that the deceased in his lifetime touched lives and built bridges of friendship across the three senatorial zones.
“Kure was not just a governor he was a father to all,” Abugi said.
