Chairman Niger State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Yahaya Idris Ndako, has called on Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to as a matter of urgency reshuffle his cabinet due to its numbers of sycophants and unproductive members.
Ndako, while addressing the unhappy crowd of workers in Minna at 123 quarters to celebrate Workers Day, hinted that NLC has no problem with the state government but its aides who are not doing the right thing by not telling the governor the true situation of things.
He added that salary of workers is a right and demanded proper attention hence decried being subjected the state civil servants to untold hardship.
He further lamented over non-payment of pension and gratuity of retirees and called for dedicated allocation of N200 million from the over N400million monthly Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) and set up a Board of Trustee to that effect for its effective and efficient management.
Comrade Ndako however condemned the politicization of the civil service and reward to hardworking members while charging for the quick implementation of the pension increments. However, Labour rejected the new executive bill sent to the state assembly on the Contributory Pension Scheme CPS and said they can only accept the earlier bill passed which the governor refused to assent.
In his speech, Governor Sani Bello said that his administration was not unaware of the scepticism and apprehension of the civil servants in the state, hence the welfare of worker would be given the required priority.
Represented by the Secretary of State Government (SSG), Hon. Ibrahim Isah Ladan who stated that the state government will continued to pay its 10.5% and 7.5% of workers to the CPS hence believed in dialogue in resolving matters but was absolutely turned down by workers who shouted “no no no go and seat down”.
He noted that the state government has paid over N2.6 billion outstanding pension and gratuities of workers assured to continue but in batches, explained that government is living to expectations in the state.
