Niger State government says, in addition to the massive opening up of rural feeder roads, it would embark on the construction of link roads that offer alternative routes in connecting various towns and villages in the state.
The link roads are expected to provide further access to some hitherto hidden communities who have to take longer routes to reach their destination.
Governor Sani Bello said that the move was to further boost socio-economic activities in the rural areas as well as ease transportation challenges within the state.
The governor made this disclosure during an interactive session with the people of Korokpan Village in Paikoro Local Government area of the state who complained of lack of feeder road to link the village with the council headquarters in Paiko.
Following the demand of the people of the village, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Mohammed Cheche to include the construction of Korokpan – Karboshakan – Dowa – Paiko road in the next year’s budget.
He stated that the potential economic advantage and benefits of opening up the link roads cannot be quantified adding that similar link roads would be identified in other local government councils with a view to developing them.
According to the governor, “the priority of this administration is to open up many communities so that our people in the rural areas, who are mostly farmers will be able to easily ferry their farm produce to major markets and by extension boost their economy and reduce rural-urban drift of our youth”.
Governor Sani Bello then assured the people that the present economic predicament of the country notwithstanding, his administration would re-strategize and manage the available resources to deliver efficient service to the people in line with his campaign promises.
