The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) is currently undertaking high-tech hydrocarbon prospect research in the Bida and Sokoto basins for the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. Mohammed Nasir Maiturare, stated this when he welcomed newly admitted students at the institution’s matriculation.

He explained that the institution has successfully conducted research on characterization of mineral deposits in North Central Nigeria, adding that “we have also successfully delivered a novel organic agriculture programme in Uganda last year”.

The VC said that the university has continued to excel in various development areas while its students have also earned international recognition by excelling in competitions.

He explained that about 4,089 students were offered admission this year out of which 2,758 have completed registration before the matriculation.

He said that his management has procured over 1000 computers to equip the university ICT centre to enhance e-learning programme of the institution.

Maiturare said that the management has also awarded scholarship to 30 best students from the various departments of the university in order to motivate students on hard work and academic excellence.

While commending the Niger state government for the timely release of subventions to the university, Prof. Maiturare said that the government has also subsidized tuition of indigent students.

He therefore called on the students to avoid violent behaviours capable of causing unrest within and outside the university community.

Administering admission oath, Registrar of the university, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi implored the new students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university.
