Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has reiterated his resolve to ensure completion of people-oriented projects initiated by past administrations in the state.
He stated this yesterday at Baban Tunga, in Tafa Local Government area of the state while commissioning a 40-bed women and children primary health centre constituency project initiative of Hon. Lado Abubakar Suleja of the House of Representatives.
The governor explained that the decision to complete abandoned “meaningful and public oriented” projects of his predecessors, especially by former Governor Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure, was devoid of politics but a policy aimed at ensuring projects with direct and positive impact on the people are completed for the good of the people.
He spoke against the backdrop of the fact that the hospital project being commissioned was initiated, started and later abandoned many years ago before Hon. Suleja, member representing Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the national assembly completed it.
The governor said: “There were some laudable and people-centred projects initiated by late Governor Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure but abandoned that we have taken over for completion. It is about the people and not politics. A solid foundation has been laid, all we are doing is to build on it and that is what government is all about.
“That is why we agreed to identify with Hon. Lado when we learnt of his efforts at completing this primary health centre, which will complement our health policy of constructing a primary health care centre in all the 274 wards in the state.
“It is not about politics, it is about the people. As long as we can establish that the masses stand to benefit from any abandoned project and that such project are cost effective, we shall ensure its completion, even in the face of meagre resources,” the governor assured.
The state Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Mustapha Jibril, said the administration would ensure delivery of over 74 primary health care centre this year, adding that upgrading works have been completed in some General Hospital in the state.
Hon. Suleja said the need to drastically reduce pregnant women and children mortality rate informed the completion of the health facility.
