With the spate of unabated acts of terrorism, banditry and allied criminality across the country especially in the North, renown investigative journalist and conflict reporter, Mr. Ahmad Salkida, has stated that Nigeria has slipped into a state of anarchy under President Muhammadu Buhari, which situation threatened the continued existence of the country as corporeal entity.
Mr. Salkida stated this in a viral twit on Tuesday via his verified twitter handle, @Ahmad _Salkida.
Apparently reacting to sectional vilification of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Fr. Matthew Hassan Kukah over the latter’s Christmas Day Homily in which the cleric rounded on President Buhari’s alleged nepotism and incompetence in managing the economic and security situation in the country, Mr. Salkida twitted: “The stakes are greater than Kukah, we are in a state of anarchy and unless urgent and drastic measures are taken we could cease to exist as a country.”
Mr. Salkida, who hails from the North East, is renowned for his extensive contacts and exclusive cum in-depth reportage on Boko Haram terrorists’ acts in the North East and elsewhere for which he has had his run-in with the Nigerian security hierarchy past and present.
In their replies to Mr. Salkida’s tweet, many Nigerians urged President Buhari to take the current security situation seriously and adopt fresh strategies to mitigate it. For instance, the twitter handle @Gabrielapogee wrote: “Coming from one that knows the extent of the carnage happening as a result of Government failure, Nigerians should take this seriously.
“Unfortunately, most don’t see enough to care. Something is terribly wrong. Borders on bewitchment.”
Also, Dalhatu Kolo twitting through the handle @dalhatukolo said: “Unfortunately, the people in power today do not even seem to care if the Nation collapses on their feet so long as they are in power. The wickedness and hypocrisy is just worrisome.” And replying through the handle @BamideleJames5, Shola Ibigbemi wrote: “This calls for serious actions to be taken by whoever is in charge if Nigeria must continue to exist. Let the security architecture be rejigged immediately.”
