Nigerians Mourn As OPEC Ex-Scribe, Barkindo, Dies Suddenly In Abuja

 The sudden death syndrome struck at the nation’s capital Abuja on Tuesday 5 July, 2022 claiming the life of the immediate past Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Muhammad Barkindo.

 Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, announced Barkindo’s death in a tweet posted on his verified Twitter handle, @MKKyari, in the early hours of Wednesday, 6 July, 2022.

Kyari tweeted: “We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,”

  Barkindo was at Presidential Villa, Abula only on same Tuesday where President Muhammadu Buhari had described him as worthy ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage.

 Shock and disbelief has trailed the death of Barkindo on the social media.Senator Shehu Sani, tweeted: “Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, former GMD NNPC and until recently, @OPECSecretariat scribe, was honoured yesterday. He died 11 pm yesternight. May Allah grant him Aljanna firdausi. Amin. That is the ephemerality and transience of life.”

 @alkayy wrote: “May Allah grant him Mercy and Jannah Firdaus. He was just in the news a few hours ago being received and thanked for his work at OPEC by the President.”

@amasonic tweeted: “Some news platforms are even still reporting his being honored by the president & his speech at a conference yesterday, and he’s gone. Kai.”

 @Zarmaomar: “Innalillahi wa inna illahin raji’un. Muhammad Sani Barkindo was celebrated and honoured by President Muhammad Buhari yesterday. He died 11pm Yesterday night. This is a great lesson to all of us, May Allah grant him aljanna firdaus.”

 @thealamein: “Ya Salam! This man was on Channels news at 10 just yesterday talking about what he did for OPEC. Forgive his shortcomings, Ya Allah.”
