Members of Nikyob Community, Kaninkon Chiefdom residing in Kaduna, Jos and Abuja have donate the first batch of relief materials worth over five million naira to their members who were victims of Godogodo attacks
Taking delivery of the relief items at Goska Community Square on Thursday, the chairman Interim Management Council Jema’a Local Government, Dr. Bege Katuka, glorified God and thanked the donors for the kind gesture, which he described as a demonstration of love.
Lamenting over the incessant attacks , the IMC chairman urged people of the local government to be more closer to God, have a good relationship with him, imbibe forgiveness of offenders, tolerance, justice, peaceful co-existence ,respect the sanctify of human life and shun involvement in violence, insurgencies, terrorism, rumor and cultism activities that are sources of global security challenges as the current times are perilous.
He said aside from including members of the community the distribution of relief materials sent by the State Emergency Management Agency and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Government was planning rebuilding or rehabilitation of destroyed houses of the affected twelve communities in the chiefdom.
The chairman urged people of the area to help in the community policing provided by the state Government by reporting suspected persons to relevant authorities.
Dr. Katuka assured that Mr. Moses Barde who was not involved in the crisis at Ungwan Misisi but went to bail Mr. Luka Bin, the village Head of Mile One when the crisis occurred, would soon be released. He solicited prayers for their quick release.
Appreciating and giving his fatherly blessings to the donors, the Tum Nikyob, Mal. Tanko Tete, who was represented by the Marafan Nikyob, Mr. Samuel Tete tasked the standing committee to distribute the dorsnated items equitably and prayed God to avert future recurrence of the ugly experience.
The traditional ruler also appreciated Government for the Concern in the restoration of peace, rehabilitation of destroyed homes and relief provided victims.
Earlier, while presenting the relief materials to the Jema’a Local Government interim Council Chairman, Elder Aboki Galadima , Chairman of Nikyob council of elders and elites, expressed dismay over the incessant attacks in Godogodo chiefdom, which was gradually spreading to other communities.
While praying to God to grant government the grace to tackle the crises in the state, Elder Aboki Galadima a called on Nikyob community members to live peacefully with people, where ever they found themselves, stressing that the community is known for truth, Justice and brotherly love and should not allow the crisis to tarnish the good reputation they were known for.
The elder statesman ,who had served in both military regime and civil government in Kaduna state called for more donations from sons and daughters of the community, friends and philanthropic organizations to ameliorate the plight of victims of the crisis.
Speaking in an interview, the National Chairman Nukyo Development Association – Mr. Waje Tokwak Goska and the Nukyoh National Youth Chairman,Keneth Gaga said the Community has been living peacefully, especially with Fulani people as brothers and with other natives in Kanninkon Chiefdom as their second home and have resolved conflicts amicably , however they wondered why the Godogodo crisis degenerated to hatred along tribal and religious lines.
They fingered the discovery of mineral resources like Nikel in large quantity in Bakin Kogi and Dangoma ,all in Kaninkon chiefdom , as possible sources that were being used by “dark hands” to fuel the crisis.
The duo called on Government to do all it could within its power to end the crisis, promising the Community will ever give Government the cooperation to execute effectively its Primary Constitutional role of protecting lives and property of the citizenry.
They stated that 2,500 Ninkyob Community members were displaced and thirty One houses burnt in the attacks to which they are begging for help for rehabilitation.
Items donated included mattresses, bags of Gari, rice, maize, clothing, cartons of washing and bathing soap and rubber mats.
