The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended the Bauchi State Government for the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances owed workers in the state.
The NLC gave the commendation in a statement made available to reporters on Tuesday in Bauchi and signed by Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the national president of the congress.
The NLC had on March 19, 2015 set up a task force to pursue payment of salary arrears owed workers by some state governments.
Wabba wrote: “Report reaching us from our task force team and the state council of Congress indicates that while other states are struggling to offset between four to seven months outstanding salaries, the case of Bauchi is different and we wish to commend you for honouring your electoral promises to workers in the state.
“We urge you to summon the courage to block leakages, financial recklessness and fight corruption head on because this notion underpins the inability of state government to pay salaries and allowances as at when due.”
Wabba said Congress will not tolerate any default in the payment of wages and might be compelled to engage any state government that deliberately delayed payment of salaries and allowances of workers at when due.
