From Tom Garba, Yola
Public Relation Officer (PRO) of a youth association known as Youths Awareness Association for Social Development (YAASODEV),Mohammed Fawas, said Adamawa youths need to be consciously informed and shun religion and tribal politics playing in the state.
According to him, sentimental politics has only succeeded in planting seeds of hatreds and disunity among the adherents of the two major religions, Islam and Christianity.
“We foresee an incoming danger to the people of Adamawa state most especially the youths who are at the receiving end of the fight. It is as simple to say that we have boarded a capsized boat heading for a rock, which is against the state’s growth and development,” Fawas said
He stressed that sentimental politics in the state could lead to disharmony and discourage most qualified potential leaders to participate in politics, paving way for charlatans who have nothing to contribute for the betterment of the state.
Fawas said: “Before 2019 general elections our main duty is to tour all the 21 LGAs in the state preaching against the politics of religion, tribal or sectional sentiments. For now we have succeeded in visiting four LGAs and our message is well passed and accepted.
“Many people have keyed into our vision and dream, and by all indications the people of Adamawa state are tired of politicians using religion or tribe to defraud them and from getting the right people to lead us”.
Fawas however maintained that Hon. Emmanuel Bello, the former House of Assembly Member represented the People of Gombi/ Hong Federal constituency of Adamawa State has proven to be a symbol and epitome of a good leader who is after the wellbeing of every person that close to him, not minding the religion one professes, the tribe or place of one’s origin.
He said: “We in YASODEV decided to be preach the good qualities of Emma so that many of his type will come out to form alliances that will de-radicalise and remove the mentally of religion politics that our people have been brainwashed with. Politics of religion has killed us in this part of the country and indeed Nigeria. Only God through His love and mercies can save us.
“Bello,a Christian was a gubernatorial aspirant under APC party. He later gave up the struggle to support Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow and a Muslim against his Christian Brother, Marcus Gundiri, immensely supporting Bindow both in kind and in cash to the success of the party.
“Right now that I’m talking to you, he has been shut out of the system of governance in the state. Even at that he still believes in oneness, togetherness and progress of our dear state and don’t care who is from where and the religion he or she practises if they are doing what is good”.
