A House- Help who stole the uniforms of a high ranking customs officer to impersonate him has been apprehended by officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after they noticed that his attitudes fell short of that of a paramilitary personnel.
The Adamawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muammadu Durumin-Iya, said his men suspected a foul play after the suspect failed to respond appropriately to salute from them.
He added that the impostor who was trailed to his hotel room after he was spotted at an ATM point where he intimidated other bank customers with the uniform also wore the rank of an Assistant Controller of Customs in an upside down position.
“‎He has been washing cars and clothes and running errands for customs officers. That is how he got access to their rooms and stole the uniform but our dedicated officers on surveillance noticed him and when they greeted him, his inappropriate response further exposed him, so they trailed him to a hotel room,” Durumin-Iya stated.
When paraded before news men in Yola, the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Lamu, said he sneaked in to the room of an officer and stole the uniform but attributed the act to the devil.‎ He therefore appealed for mercy, saying he would not engage in such acts in the future.
But Durumin-Iya said the suspect would be handed over to the Yola Command of the Nigeria Customs Service immediate.
