Lagos’ Augustine Emmanuel and Kwara’s Sukurat Aiyelabegan are champions of the league and they are expected to be joined by 18 other players in the grand finale holding on May 14 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Emmanuel will compete against Jamiu Ayanwale, Abayomi Animasahun, Qudus Surmer, Orok Etim, Taiwo Mati, Michael Obayomi, Gabriel Akinduro, Obayomi Martins, Ololade Oyenekan, Joshua Olawoyin and Solomon Mati in the boys’ event, while Aiyelegan will compete against seven others in the girls’ cadre. The female players are Rofiat Jimoh, Zainab Surmer, Kehinde Oyeniyi, Ifeoluwa Omotosho, Muibat Bello, Adejoke Mustapha and Iyanuoluwa Falana.
According to the President of NTTF, Wahid Oshodi, the Super League promises to be exciting as there are hope to unearth new talents.
“We expect fireworks because these children are determined and so talented to showcase themselves. Playing before the big crowd at the Teslim Balogun Stadium as a warm up to the ITTF Nigerian Open will surely bring out the best in them.
“ I am firmly of the opinion that the players, especially the boys, are the best group of youngsters of this age that we have seen in this country. With lots of prizes on offer and of course entry into the national team cadet squad to be won and I am sure we are in for a very exciting time.
“I also expect that they will also be introduced into the elite cadet training programme that will be conducted later in the year by the national team coaches and seasoned professionals like Segun Toriola and Funke Oshonaike,” Oshodi said.
