The state chapel the Nigerian Union of Journalist ( NUJ) in Adamawa Press Limited (APL) has accused the General Manager of the firm of running the company as his personal estate without recourse to official procedures.
Consequently, they conveyed a Congress chaired by the chairman of the chapel, Muhammed Bello and signed by more than 2/3 of the members advising the government in the interest of general public to redefine the status of the Adamawa Press Limited as a limited liability company or state corporation to allow it function effectively, being the only state-owned newspaper that is covering the whole of the North- East.
They are also advising the government to restrict media-related appointments to only professional journalists to avoid the scope of alleged bad experience under the current leadership of the firm.
The Adamawa NUJ wrote: “We are worried that the situation of the company is further deteriorating due to maladministration and high handedness of the Chief Executive of the company owing to the fact that virtually all the actions and decisions of the General Manager are not products of management decision. He has no respect for the principles of separation of power or the existence of a management body in the company.
“He posts, engages and removes staff at will. He frustrates editorial policies and performance of the editorial department, He has no any significant achievement in spite of the monthly collection running cost and media funds and the income generated by the company.”
Another source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the General Manager, Saidu Hassan Modibbo, “is always dancing to the rhythms and tunes of the Secretary to the state Government (SSG) in other to maintain their long-lasting friendship.”
All effort to reach the APL managing director and publisher of The Scope Newspaper were fruitless as calls put to his lines went unanswered and several visits to his office yielded no results.
