It Is Not True, Say Officials
From Ochei Matthew, Asaba
Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has allegedly diverted official fuel allocation to Government House, Asaba fuel dump to a private filling station in the state capital.
Formerly, the fuel dump was at the Inter- Bua roundabout by Summit Road beside the ministry of work. However, fuel allocation to Government House is now allegedly being offloaded at a private station popularly called Anioma filling station along the Okpanam road.
Source who confided in The Dream Daily said “it is bad and unfortunate for the governor to have moved the state fuel dump that had been there since the existence of the state to a private filling station.”
The source noted that government vehicles, including the governor’s cars were “being driven to the Anioma filling station to get fuel and diesel,” which he said was “not the practice in Delta throughout the previous administrations. Maybe it is a secret business between the governor and the owner of the filling station,” he added.
“When my oga (superior) sent me to go to the state fuel pump to get fuel, as usual I went to Summit Road, to my greatest surprise nothing was happening there. I call my oga, he said ‘ha! Are you not aware that the dump has been moved to Anioma filling station? Go to the Anioma and get me fuel.’ When I got there, they gave me fuel,” another source, a government driver, told The Dream Daily.
Reacting to the allegation, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said that the state was not operating filling station.
“You know that any government official that wants to collect fuel must obtain voucher before being given fuel,” Ukah explained.
Also, Chief Press Secretary To Governor (CPS), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, denied the allegation, saying: said “Nobody moved the fuel dump. The dump is still in operation. The state government is not involved in fuel supply. Does it mean that if we travel to Warri, we won’t buy fuel from private stations or must it always be at the fuel dump? People should stop spreading rumours around.”
When The Dream Daily visited the fuel dump beside the ministry of work on Summit Road, no activity was observed there and it looked deserted.
