It Is Not True, Says CPS
From Ochei Matthew, Asaba
The Delta state chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP) has scored the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, low on achievement after one year in office, saying that the projects on ground were worth less than the amount of allocation accrued to the state in the period under review.
The SDP said after a careful observation, critical analysis and an unbiased assessment of the Okowa-led government in the state, the political party has unequivocally concluded that “Okowa is running Delta State not as an elected governor but as a monarch, a ruler and not a leader”.
A statement issued in Asaba by the chairman of the party, Hon. Oke Idawene, made available to The Dream Daily stated that SDP wanted to know the total amount Delta State had received from the Federation Account since Okowa assumed office and “what has happened to the federal bailout fund for the payment of salaries?
According to the release, the party has also demanded to know what has been happening to the ecological fund, “DESOPADEC financial state, accounts and projects, what happened to the 13% derivation fund? Where is local government fund?”
Querying Okowa over the federal allocation accrued to the state in the past one year and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the party asserted: “We state categorically that Governor Okowa has performed far below Deltans’ expectation”
The party alleged that the IGR of the state has not been properly harnessed and that it was shrouded in secrecy, stressing that “the security in the state has dropped drastically within the past one year”.
“We make bold to say, if in a month these issues are not addressed, we shall use all legal means to seek redress to ensure Deltans get ‘Transparent and Good Governance’. Enough of closed-doors and closed-hearts style of government in Delta State”, the party noted.
However, in a reaction to the allegation, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor Mr. Charles Aniagwu noted that in Okowa’s administration there is delegation of powers
He said “I don’t understand what they mean by ‘monarch or ruler’ but I know that deputy governor has his own functions, commissioners have theirs and so on, so the party just want their voice to be heard on the pages of newspapers, though, they are entitle to their opinion as democracy allows it.”
Aniagwu said that Governor Okowa just concluded commissioning of his projects that cut across the three senatorial zones and would do more in his second year, urging residents to support Okowa’s prosperity to all Deltans.
