Older Persons Pledge Contribution To National Growth

Members of the Older Persons Association, Jema’a Local Government chapter in Kaduna State, have re-iterated their resolve to contribute to the development of the country.
The Association Chairman, Chief Chibu-Eze Akpu, stated this on Friday, while marking the World Health Day at the Local Government Secretariat, Kafanchan.
The Chairman said “We will continue to engage ourselves in meaningful ventures that our strength could contend, for the progress of society”.
Chief Akpu said the Association was the first of its kind in Southern Kaduna which aims and objectives were to address challenges faced by older persons in the society
According to him, some of the challenges include poor health, delay in payment of pension benefits, for those who retired from government service and lack of motivation by the three tiers of government, among others.
In a remark, the overseer of Jema’a Local Government, Mr. Leo Shekari , who was represented by the Director of Administration, expressed the council’s readiness to support the association towards addressing challenges confronting it.
Also speaking, the founder and patron of the Older Persons Association, Prof. John Dada advised government to borrow a leaf from other countries, especially the west who express significant concern in the affairs of older persons.
Prof. Dada urged government to make budgetary provision to cater for the needs of the older men and women to improve their living conditions.
The Agwam Fantswam, Mallam Musa Didam who was represented by the District head of Unguwan Yanshi, Mr. Yohanna Yabanat, described the event as timely and called for cooperation among members to attain their objectives.
