President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been commended for his choices of the ministers of youth and sports and for unbundling the two sub-sectors into standalone ministries.

A Professor of Sports Psychology, Seun Omotayo, issued the commendation following the Senate confirmation this week of Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim as the Minister of Youth. President Tinubu had earlier appointed Hon. John Owan Enoh as the Minister of Sports.

Prof. Omotayo commended the President for separating the ministries and being gender sensitive in appointing ministers into them.

Omotayo said: “The Hallmark of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government is the decoupling of the Sports and Youth ministries. The creation of a stand-alone Youth Ministry is highly commendable. Also thoughtful is the gender balance of a male and female as Ministers.  It shows how seriously the President takes the future of Nigeria at heart by giving opportunities to the youths who are the leaders to take over from the older citizens in no distant future.

“It is now left to the two ministers to take full advantage of the opportunity to join hands with Mr. President to produce the next generation of Nigeria Leaders. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for taking the cliché ‘youths are the leaders of tomorrow beyond rhetoric. Mr. President has indeed walked his talk.”

On the stand alone Sports Ministry, Prof. Omotayo, who is the Acting President, Africa Sports Management Association and also the Africa Representative on the Executive Board of the World Association for Sports Management, said he hoped that the stand-alone Sports Ministry would deepen professionalism in Sport Management in Nigeria along world global best practices.

He called on Members of Nigeria Chapter of the Africa Sports Management Association to offer the necessary professional support to the Honourable Minister for Sports to succeed.

Prof. Omotayo, who spoke on his way back to his base in Ghana to oversee the planning of the 13th Africa Games Scientific Congress, is also a member of the 22nd National Sports Festival Local Organizing Committee to be hosted by Ogun State next year.
