The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed on.

According to family sources, Akeredolu died in Lagos on Wednesday 27 December, 2023 in the course of a prolonged battle with leukaemia.

The Owo-born politician and senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was 67 years old.

The ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany and only recently proceeded on another one after he was directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is Aiyedatiwa the state acting governor.

Other things being equal, Aiyedatiwa is now expected to be made substantive governor of the state following Akeredolu’s demise.
