From Victor Seyi, Ilorin
The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has called for collective responsibility to complement efforts of the Federal Government towards sustaining peace in the country.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin at the weekend, the Kwara State coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Maruf Olarewaju, said that the organisation was determined to complement government’s efforts at protecting lives and property of every Nigerian in the South West geo-political zone.
Olarewaju said: “It is no news that South West has been enjoying peace, harmony and
progress for some years now and people see the zone as a crisis-free region. But some elements of destruction are about to turn it to crisis zone of anarchy because they seek financial support from politicians in the zone.
“We will all recall that First, Second and Third Republic came to an end in Nigeria because of South West crisis. These people want same thing to repeat itself,” he said.
The OPC coordinator also said that it has uncovered plots by a group of people to attack the leader of the socio-cultural organisation.
He therefore called on the federal government, security agencies and human rights organisations to investigate the matter with a view to ensure security and peace.
The OPC coordinator, who said that previous attempts had been made on the life of Dr. Gani Adams in May this year, added that the organisation had received reports.
The organisation also advised the federal government to continue to protect lives and property of every Nigerian in the face of possible attack.
“We are using this medium to alert the world, the human rights watch, the federal government of Nigeria and all the security agencies in the country that nothing ungodly should befall Otunba Gani Adams,” Olarewaju said.
