Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has obtained the N100 million expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Prof. Osinbajo picked the form on Thursday 5th May 2022 by proxy in Abuja.

Represented by Senator Kabiru Gaya from Kano State, Osinbajo said politics was a game of give and take, and announced that he has offered himself to Nigerians to serve as President, hence his decision to join the race.

However, Osinbajo said that the South should produce the next president for the country.

The vice president promised to use the experience he had garnered over the years in government to bring good fortune to Nigerians.

His words: “I’ve been in politics for many years and I understand at certain level how politics should be played. I believe it is a game of give and take. We have served in the Presidency in this country for nearly eight years under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. Therefore, the Presidency should go to the South and that is why we said the best person to handle this matter is somebody who has been in the system.

“If Osinbajo is sworn in today at the Eagle Square, by tomorrow morning he can pick up because he’s already in the system. He’s going to improve on that new plan we have to develop the economy better for Nigerians.

On the rising number of presidential aspirants in the APC, Osibanjo said: “Well democracy is a game of number, every aspirant that is contesting is qualified, None of them is unqualified to contest. But we are saying that we should look along the line and see who’s the best material and I’m sure if we put them together, all of them will pick Osinbajo as the consensus candidate.

Asked on his preferred mode of primary, Osinbajo said: “It is left for the party and if the aspirants say this is what they want. I believe it will be direct primary where delegates will come to Abuja and elect a candidate. When you do indirect primary, it may be more bogous and takes more time.

“I believe that whatever the party agrees with the aspirants is what we will do. The Electoral Act is very clear. It says consensus, direct and indirect primaries. Consensus can be done and all the candidates would agree that it is fair. We just had a taste of that when we came to elect the current executives of the party. The national chairman was elected by general consensus. All aspirants wrote a letter supporting Abdullahi Adamu and Abdullahi Adamu is the national chairman. So we just hope that that kind of thing may happen by God’s grace.”
