The Coordinator of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC) in Kwara state, Maruf Olarewaju has called on the state government to launch a security watch over Gani Adams, who would be in the state for Irra festival by weekend.
Olarewaju made the call on Wednesday in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
He said that the attention of the group had been drawn to the plan of Adams, who he said was a former national coordinator, to storm Irra community, Oyun local government area of Kwara state for Oya festival with hoodlums.
“It is on record that the Kwara state chapter of OPC led by myself started the celebration of Oya festival in 2010 before it was hijacked by the former national coordinator (Gani Adams), using the festival to extort money from members of the organisation, state governments and international community”, he said.
According to the OPC boss, Adams was sacked from the position of the national coordinator since February 1 due to mismanagement of the congress fund and his dictatorial attitude.
He, however, said that Adams was still parading himself as the leader of the congress because he had turned OPC to his privately owned company, where he used the congress funds to sustain himself and his family.
Olarewaju said that Gani Adams group should know that Kwara is a state of peace and harmony that would not allow any destruction elements to jeopardise the peace atmosphere enjoyed by the people of the state.
The OPC leader said he had to raise the alert because of Gani Adams’ antecedent, which he said was synonymous to violence, destruction of lives and property.
He urged government to watch Adams not to cause anarchy in the state as well as breaking down of law and orders.
He added that various communities had been avoiding him because of his act of thuggery such example he said was his rejection at Oro festival in Iseyin and Aje festival at Onigbongbo in Lagos.
