The liveries are out in full across Oyo as the ancient town lines up several activities to celebrate the 85th posthumous birthday of the last Alaafin, His Imperial Majesty Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who passed on last year.
Scion of the Adeyemi Dynasty and Member representing Afioji, Oyo East, Oyo West, Atiba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Prince) Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, is the brain behind the week-long celebration of his late father.
Hon. Adeyemi is chairman, House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions.
The programme of event started on 5 October, 2023 with an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training for 50 youths, which ended on 8 October, 2023 with all participants going home with gifts of laptop computers.
Further to the posthumous birthday celebration, a Jumat Service will hold on Friday 13 October, 2023 at the Ansarudeen Central Mosque, Oyo
The Christians of the town will hold a corresponding church service on Sunday, 15 October 2023 at the Zion International Gospel Centre Ojongbodu, Oyo by 12noon.
On same day, the final match of the Oba Adeyemi Football Tournament will be played at Ode Aremo area by 4pm.
The grand finale of the posthumous birthday celebration for the departed Alaafin Adeyemi III is scheduled for Monday 16 October, 2023 with the commissioning of ICT centres at the School of Science, Oyo by 8.30am; Ilora Community Commercial High School by 10.30am; and at St Francis Catholic College ,Oyo. by 11am. The final day of the event will also feature a cash empowerment programme for 500 people who will receive N50,000 each at the Oba Adeyemi III Mini Stadium, Ode Aremo, Oyo by 12 noon.
