Patients seeking care at the General Hospital, Kafanchan Kaduna State have lamented alleged lack of prompt attention from doctors of the facility.
Some of the patients who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of the doctors, who they said do not attend to them until as late as 10a.m. most of the time.
A patient, Mr. Sunday Inuwa said he went to hospital as early as 7:00am but waited till about 10:00am, when doctors started attending to patients at the Out Patient Department (OPD).
Mrs. Amina Bako, another patient, lamented the level of negligence by doctors over time, saying it was threat to lives.
She said the ugly development has remained unabated over time and appealed to the authorities concerned to enforce measures that would reverse the trend.
When contacted, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Jonathan Gajere said the management of the hospital has always emphasized on the need for patients to spend little time as possible before being attended to.
Dr. Gajere explained that delays in attending to patients sometimes occur as a result of doctors engagement in surgeries on Tuesdays and Thursdays
He said on other days, the doctors have to observe routine ward rounds between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00am, before attending to patients at the O.P.D.
The medical director called on dissatisfied patients to always contact the management of the hospital for explanation on the operation of the hospital.
On manpower, Dr. Gajere said the immediate past administration of Kaduna State recruited additional staff for the hospital and expressed satisfaction that the present government has shown significant interest in the health sector.
He was optimistic that with the support the facility enjoys form the state government, it would serve as a referral centre for primary health centres and clinics in Kafanchan and its environs.
