The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed the judgement of the Court of Appeal Port Harcourt which gave the chairmanship of the party to the Senator Ali Modu Sherif faction of the party to the supreme court.
Niger state chairman of the party Alhaji Tanko Beji disclosed this in Minna on Thursday while exchanging views with newsmen at the party Secretariat after a stakeholders meeting.
Tanko Beji did not however say when the appeal was filed but said it was in line with the National working committee decision of last Monday.
The PDP chairman said the party was optimistic that the Port Harcourt judgement would be overturned in favour of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party.
He said: “We will continue to forge ahead, the PDP is intact, we are working towards wrestling power from the APC. We will do all that is legally possible to take back power if we are threatened by any group we will go to court to enforce our right ”
Asked what the party would do if the party lose its appeal at the supreme court Beji declared ” you don’t expect us to put all our eggs on the table for people to break “.
Earlier Beji had briefed stakeholders about latest development in the party and the outcome of the National Working Committee meeting.
At the meeting a chieftain of the party and former Kano state military governor, Colonel Aminu Isa Kontagora, had told the stakeholders that the meeting would be held at zonal levels to intimate party faithful about development in the party.
The meeting unanimously agreed to stand by the decision of the NWC and continue to work closely with the Ahmed Makarfi led faction of the party.
Prominent among those in attendance were former ministers and special advisers in the Goodluck Jonathan administration as well as some former state and federal legislators.
