Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has approved the sponsorship of 100 seats for Christian clerics and teachers of Christian Religion Knowledge in the state to participate in this year’s trip to the Holy Land.
Executive Secretary of the state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Barrister Clement Odeh, made this known during an interview with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital. According to the Board scribe, the governor was selective this time in sponsoring these category of Christians to enable them obtain practical view and knowledge of some of the things they impart to their followers as contained in the scripture.
Barrister Odeh who applauded the governor for his support to the Board since inception of his administration, opined that his decision to sponsor only the clergy and instructors of Christian Religious Knowledge in schools will further contribute to the maintaining peace in the state.
He said while in the Holy Land the pilgrims will use part of their stay in Israel to visit holy places while the remaining days will be used to visit agricultural formations for possible knowledge in that direction.
Barrister Odeh, who assured of a successful trip this year, called on the intending pilgrims from the state to be of good conduct and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of the country.
Our correspondent reports that a total of 145 persons from the state are to participate in this year’s journey to Israel. Besides those under government ticket, 45 are on self-sponsorship.
