The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter has urged President Mohammadu Buhari to solve the economic problems in the country and be fair to all parts of the in his appointments into key public offices, saying “a situation where a section of a particular religion is given undue advantage against the other is unacceptable, and is against the principles of equity, fairness, balanced and inclusiveness.”

The Plateau CAN stated this during the closing ceremony of the unity service held for all Christians in the three senatorial zones of the state.

At the climax of the event held at the Living Faith Zonal Headquarters, along Murtala Mohammed Way, Jos, representatives of the denominational heads admitted that lack of unity among the churches has further created room for the persecution of the Christians in Nigeria.

CAN said in as much as it vowed to support President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusaded, the body should not be taken for granted.

Addressing the gathering, the Guest Speaker and President, Church of Christ in Nation, (COCIN) in Plateau, Rev. Dr. Dacom Datiri, appealed to the political class in the state and the country at large to put behind them their differences and build bridges of love for the common interest and development of the country.

Prayer session was also conducted for the President and his cabinet, National and state Assembly members and the state governor and his political office holders.

In the Goodwill Message, Governor Simon Lalong, through his Deputy, Sonny Tyoden and Speaker, Plateau State House Of Assembly, Peter Azi, commended CAN for creating a platform for Plateau indigenes to make contributions for national issues.

However, they cautioned the churches against interfering in politics.

Vonveners of the forum, Rev. Dr. Soja Bewarang and Chairman, Planning Committee, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) RBC Nwankwo said the prayer session was not a judgment session but “to canvass for the right things to be done.”

“CAN became concerned over recent appointments made by the Federal Government into key positions. It is glaring that the President is side-lining Christians,” he said.
