Force Headquarters, Abuja has assured that no personnel of the Nigeria Police caught in an act of crime would be shielded from prosecution. Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, gave the assurance in a statement made available to The Dream Daily Newspapers in Abuja.
The statement read: “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a report by Premium Times February 27, 2017 captioned “Police Inspector arrested carrying 75 bags of Indian hemp in Police bus”
“The Nigeria Police Force is an organization that respects and obeys the law, it also ensures that the conduct and actions of its personnel conform with the dictates of the rule of law and other international best practices.
“Consequently, the Nigeria Police Force will not condone criminal act by any serving personnel. For the avoidance of doubt, the Force was not aware of the arrest of the purported Inspector Abali Zagi by the NDLEA for the said offence until it was reported in the media. However, his identity and the Police vehicle claimed to have been used to commit the act are currently being verified.
“After a careful study of the report the Inspector General of Police directed a full scale investigation into the incidence. The Police investigation team is to liaise with the NDLEA to ascertain the true personality of the purported Inspector, take appropriate departmental action against him if found out to be a serving personnel of the Force and ensure his prosecution by the NDLEA.”
