Rector, Niger state Polytechnic, Zungeru, Dr. Umar Ahmed Egbako, has warned the students against engaging in cultism, examination malpractices and other vices.
Dr Egbako said whoever ran foul of the directive would be expelled from the school and prosecuted if need be.
He described the recent inferno that claimed the office of the Rector, Deputy Rector and others as a serious setback to the institution.
The rector lamented during the matriculation ceremony of 2016/2017 part time students of the polytechnic over the weekend.
Dr Egbako challenged the new students to abide by the rules and regulations governing the institution.
He thanked Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for identifying with the school by sending his deputy to the institution after the fire incident, lamenting that though the inferno was a serious setback but the institution has learnt its lesson.
It would be recalled that the Administrative Building of the institution was razed by fire some minutes after the matriculations of regular students recently.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is with heavy heart that I remind you of the unfortunate incidence that befell our noble polytechnic precisely two weeks ago. Allah (SWA) has tested our faith by the fire that destroyed the second floor of our Administrative Building. I want to take this opportunity to admonish once again that what has happened was the will of God. We should therefore take it in good fate and remain steadfast,” the rector said.
While calling on Governor Sani Bello to come to their aid, the rector also challenged the 1,257 part-time students to shun vices like cultism, extortion, sexually harassment and examination malpractice if they really want to succeed in their studies.
Egbako, who stressed that the private and public sectors are characterized by extremely stiff competition occasioned by rapidly increasing office demands and technology, maintained that effort shall be geared up to ensure sound knowledge is given to the students.

He added: “As management, we shall continue to give priority attention to technological education and sound character. We shall give it our best. We shall make the learning and teaching environment conducive for you. The burden is also on you to play your own role responsibly as students”.
