The Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa has said that henceforth the state would not pay Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) electricity bills until power supply is restored to the state.
Vatsa, in the post-exco briefing made the disclosure while answering questions from the journalists yesterday in Minna, He said that gone are the era of paying power bills without supply.
He charged the distribution company to immediately distribute pre-paid meters to the public, the people of Niger state especially, to enable them pay for what they consume.
He accused the AEDC of diverting the power generated to other parts of the country for more revenue to the detriment of Niger state.
In same vein, the Commissioner of Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulmalik Usman Cheche, told the media that over 1,600 Mega Watts is generated in Niger state and called for 10% out of electricity generated from the national grid to be distributed to Nigerlites.
Cheche, who lamented over months of blackout in the state, explained that the state government would in due course receive payment of grant rent from AEDC for the repairs and replacements of transformers.
