The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa state chapter has issued a Press release registering its displeasure over what the association called “confrontational Tafsir” on them by Some Muslim Clerics.
In the statement by the state Chairman, Bishop Mike Moses in Yola, the group expressed its concerning over some sermons aired by some media houses which it adjudged confrontational to the Christian faith.
The letter made particular reference to a sermon delivered on ATV Yola which allegedly condemned Christianity in totality, “forgetting that the state is managing to sustain” a “fragile peace” it currently enjoys.
CAN urged media houses in the state should be custodian and promoters of peace and unity, “they should be professional in discharging their duties. Censorship of religious contents going on air is necessary for promoting unity.”
It added: “We are living in an era and region that peace appears costly. Therefore anything that will jeorpadise our peaceful coexistence should be discouraged and frown at. Christianity and Islam preache Peace and Love for mankind. These are the virtue all Preachers should promote among our followers. Anything short of that is unacceptable”.
It enjoined “the relevant authorities to intervene and forestall future misguided public comments by clerics.”
CAN called on Christian faithful in the state to be “law-abiding, tolerant and loving. They should continue to obey the constituted authority and never take laws into their hands in the face of provocation.”
