Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer Of Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry Sabon Tasha, led a delegation of 10 Christians clerics and 10 Muslim clergymen to a meeting on Thursday with all market union leaders and whole sellers from the 23 local governments in Kaduna state.
According to the clerics, they launched the “Cut-Down-Your-Price- Campaign For God” in the country to ensitize traders on the importance of cutting down prices of their wares, especially foodstuff, fruits and other commodities that could be of great use to Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan in other to enable all Muslims and non-Muslims enjoy the month.
Pastor Buru, said as “Christian leaders, we kick against any rise of prices of food in Ramadan, which will make Muslims not happy in the holy month. We also kick against all forms of extortion or cheating by marketers of their customers in Ramadan because we all worship one God. We are all are brothers and sisters who originated from Adam and Eve. We all believe in the Bible and Qur’an. Because of this, we deem it fit to participate fully in dialogue with traders on the importance of reducing all prices of all goods and services for the holy month.
The delegation, which includes some evangelists, pastors, sheiks, imam and their followers had last week visited the Kaduna Central Market, Kasuwar Barchi Kaduna, Railway Market, Kasuwar Kawo,Barnawa Market and Sabon Gari market at Zaria and some weekly local markets in the southern part of Kaduna state of Nigeria
Pastor Buru said “the Ramadan is set to begins on June 6 but right now, we have observed that since last week prices of foodstuff, fruit and other commodities in the markets have tripled, making the situation very hard for everyone to eat three times a day and this is because most traders don’t know the implication of increasing the prices of goods in the holy month and its consequences on Judgement Day.”
Pastor Buru stated that “God is not happy with marketers that cheat and double prices of goods in the holy month of Ramadan,” adding that “there is a serious judgement waiting for him or her on the day of resurrection(Paradise is not made for people who doubled prices in holy months in other to satisfy their desires. Paradise is made for people who fear God and help other when the need arises.”
Responding on behalf of the traders, Alhaji Adamu Usman Maishinkafa, who expressed satisfaction with the clerics’ visit and admonition, said the message would be pased across to all members of the union in the state and urge business men and women to fear God in all their affairs.
However, Maishinkafa said, “we are not the root cause of hike of prices in the market. We also buy from companies that bring these goods for us to sale in the market. We also buy at very high prices.”
Maishinkafa canvassed government, urging “the authority to find ways of tackling shortage of food supply in the market.”
