As a result of the current economic recession in the country, a media xompany owned by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Gotel Communication, whose corporate headquarters is in Jimeta, Yola Adamawa state, has retrenched over 200 of its staff.
Sources told The Dream Daily that Gotel Communication comprising of Gotel Television, AM and FM radio stations, which has a staff strength of over 300 now operates with less than 50 staffers.
For some time now rumours of the downsizing plan have been rife, leaving many staff members in a state of fear.
A source also disclosed that the new management of the company, which is heading by one of Atiku sons, took the decision with a view to repositioning the organization well to meet global challenges.
The new management accused the previous administration of hiring unqualified persons who lacked prerequisite experience to work in the media group.
