Taxpayers in Nigeria can look forward to lasting respite from the scourge of multiple taxation as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has resolved to bring this burning issue before all stakeholders to discuss and proffer workable solutions to it.
The FIRS’ resolve to unknot this thorny issue is clear as it has made it the theme of the 2nd Annual National Tax Dialogue holding on Tuesday, 29 March, 2022 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The theme of this year’s dialogue, according to the notification and invitation issued by the FIRS is “Harmonisation of Tax Collection in Nigeria”
President Muhammadu Buhari will declare open the event as the Special Guest of Honour, 9.00am.
Host of the National Tax Dialogue is the Executive Chairman, FIRS, Mr. Muhammad M. Nami while the Chief Host is the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru el-Rufai.
Stakeholders in the taxation sub-sector of the economy are expected to brainstorm at the strictly invitational dialogue during which they are expected to proffer solutions to the problems posed to the economy by multiple tax regimes in the country, with a view to harmonising these for relief to taxpayers and engender a more efficient tax revenue generation system for the country.
The Dream Daily Newspaper learned that plans were under way to beam the event live on national television just as the maiden edition was broadcast live in 2021. It will also be live-streamed on the FIRS’ social media platforms.
In addition, The Dream Daily Newspaper plans a live-text coverage of the 2nd Annual National Tax Dialogue on this website as well as via our social media handles.
