Rep Gives N1 Million To Niger Flood Victims

The member representing Munya/Shiroro/Rafi federal constituency, Niger State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Adamu Chika, has donated N1million to the victims of the recent flood disaster in Kuta, Shiroro Local Government which sacked several houses.

The lawmaker, while speaking during the presentation ceremony to the committee handling the relief efforts in the affected town, said the donation was meant to provide immediate succour to the victims of the disaster.

Chika stated that the flood disasterw as an act of God, stressing the need for the local councils to provide drainages around the town to mitigate against future occurrence of such disaster.

He described the donation as a token to provide immediate relief before the emergency agencies of the state and federal government bring their own relief materials to the victims.

Chika urged other members of the community by offering the needed assistance to the victims in keeping with the African traditions of being their brother’s keeper.

“The local and state governments must provide the necessary steps against future disaster through construction of drains and culverts and stoppage of buildings on water ways,” he stated.

Chika urged the committee on relief that consists of traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agents and local government officials to ensure the judicious usage of the donation.

Chika assured the people of a robust and proactive legislation at the National Assembly on people oriented programmes and policies, ensuring that the government remain proactive at all times.
