Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has extended an olive branch to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, by inviting him to a pivotal meeting scheduled for Monday, 10 March, 2025.

The meeting, detailed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, aims to address pressing legislative and financial concerns, including the presentation of the state budget.

The letter outlines four key agenda items for discussion.

First on the list is the provision of a befitting space for the Assembly’s sittings, signaling the governor’s intent to resolve ongoing logistical challenges faced by the lawmakers.

Second, the meeting will tackle the payment of all outstanding remuneration and allowances owed to honorable members, a move likely aimed at fostering goodwill amid reported tensions.

The third and central focus is the presentation of the state budget, a critical step in outlining Rivers State’s fiscal priorities for the year ahead.

Finally, the agenda leaves room for “sundry matters” and any additional issues deemed necessary to chart a progressive path for the state.

This development comes against the backdrop of strained relations between the executive and legislative arms in Rivers State, with political observers viewing the meeting as a potential turning point.

The governor’s call for dialogue suggests an effort to bridge divides and ensure smooth governance in the oil-rich state.

Stakeholders are keenly watching to see if this engagement will yield concrete resolutions, particularly on the budget, which is essential for driving development projects and public services.

The meeting’s outcome could set the tone for legislative harmony and fiscal planning in Rivers State, as both parties are urged to prioritize the best interests of the state’s citizens.

All eyes will be on Port Harcourt come Monday.
