The Police in Rivers State said they have arrested for suspected armed robbers, seven kidnappers and 10 cultists in different operations in the state.
Parading the suspects on Friday at Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Musa Kimo, said most of the arrests were made following tip-off and intelligence gathering by the officers of the Anti-robbery, anti-cultism and Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS).
A breakdown of number of arms recovered show that four AK-47 rifles, one English-made pump action gun, one English made pistol,oe locally made double barrel pistol and one pump action gun. Others are 203 live ammunition, eight magazines and two cartridges.
The CP said in addition, “the police on 14/10/2015 at about 1700hrs along Trans Amadi, Off Ordinance Road, Port Harcourt foiled a bank robbery when they accosted and exchanged fire with the armed robbers who robbed Diamond Bank.”
The operations, he said, “paid off as the sum of N137,216 000 and one Lexus jeep, with registration number KRK209BX, one English-made pistol, one AK47 rifle with six empty AK-47 magazines and one rocket grenade launcher were recovered.”
Kimo assured the public that the resolution of his command to have zero tolerance for crime and criminality would be sustained till Rivers State was rid of crime. He thanked the people for their cooperation in volunteering information to the police, restating that crime fighting is a collective responsibility of all.
The CP also thanked the Press for always being available to cover its activities even on short notice.
